David King: British Olympic hurdler retires from athletics

David Matthew King (born 13 June 1994, Plymouth) has officially retired from professional athletics as of June 2025. King, a three-time British champion in both the 110 m and 60 m hurdles, had a distinguished career highlighted by an Olympic debut and national dominance

The six -year British champion of Plymouth reached the semifinals of 110m obstacles in the late 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

He reached the final of the 2022 Indoor World Championship, after having attracted the lots after registering a time identical to Japan Nomoto Shusei in the semifinal.

King also ran in three European championships, represented England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and reached the semifinals of the 2022 World Championship.

International Endeavors

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, King trained with the Phoenix Track Club under coach Tim O’Neil starting in 2019. This change revitalized his performance, leading to his Olympic qualification and continued European success

Decision to Retire

After nearly a decade in elite athletics, King announced his retirement in June 2025. With his personal bests, titles, and international credentials, he leaves behind a legacy of excellence.
