Edan Alexander, 21, the last American-Israeli host
Alexander, who comes from Tenafly, New Jersey, emigrated to Israel and volunteered in the Israel Defense Forces (FDI), where he was accepted in the Elite Golani brigade. He was kidnapped by Hamas during the terrorist attack of October 7, 2023.
Many Tenafly residents gathered at dawn to see the launch of Alexander.
Alexander was delivered to the Red Cross, who for almost 600 days did not visit him in captivity, in Gaza on Monday afternoon, local time, and had to be delivered to the Israeli forces in Gaza, before his return home.
President Donald Trump welcomed Alexander’s launch in a publication about his social account of the truth:
Alexander’s relatives also celebrated:
Alexander will be received in Israel by his family; by the negotiator of Israeli hostages Gal Hirsch; For us special envoy Steve Witkoff; And for the doctors, who will transfer it to the Ichilov hospital in Tel Aviv for evaluation.
There are 20, or 23, living hostages still in Gaza, approximately 50 in total, including those who are dead. Hamas murdered 40 American citizens on October 7, 2023, and the Hostages of Tok 12 Americans, among more than 250 general hostages, including five US hostages who still lived when Trump won the 2024 elections, and that have run their legs.
Israeli defenders of hostage families are pressing for additional releases. Israel has emphasized that Hamas released Alexander “under fire” and without concessions on the Israeli side. Hamas described the launch as a gesture of goodwill before the visit of President Trump to the region, but the image is probably more complex, which involves several parts agreements with the regional Arab states.
