It was also reported that Richard Cooper, Kerley’s lawyer, issued a statement saying: “We are sure that this case will be dismissed shortly.”

Grand Slam’s track confirmed in a statement on Friday: “Fred Kerley was arrested last night. The matter is under active investigation.

“Fred will not compete this weekend. We have no more comments at this time.”

Johnson, 28 years old and an Olympic obstacle, had to compete in Grand Slam Track.

BBC Sport has contacted the Broward County Sheriff and Kerley’s representative to comment.

The former world champion Kerley won 100m bronze at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, after having won money in Tokyo 2020.

I was scheduled to compete in the 100 meters on Saturday and 200 meters on Sunday in Miami, after competing at the inauguration of Grand Slam Track Meeting in Kingston, Jamaica, last month.
